Following its first invitation in 2024, the Multilatérale Ensemble returns to China for a new tour taking it to Hangzhou and Shanghai. This renewed presence reflects the strong ties the ensemble has established with the Chinese music scene and, more broadly, its commitment to fostering international artistic exchange.

In Hangzhou, as part of the Hangzhou Contemporary Music Festival, Multilatérale will give three concerts. The first will feature a new cine-concert by Chinese composer Deqing Wen, built around three Buster Keaton short films. The programme brings together the comic energy of silent cinema and a musical language shaped by the possibilities of electronics and moving image.

A second concert will bring together three distinctive musical worlds in a triple portrait of Chaya Czernowin, Bruno Mantovani and Yann Robin, three composers with very different musical languages and artistic trajectories. Finally, Multilatérale will perform J’Ouïs, a programme exploring transformations of sound and musical material, from Gérard Grisey to Tristan Murail, Fausto Romitelli and Franck Bedrossian.

The tour will continue in Shanghai, at Tongji University, as part of the International Symposium of Music and Technology. Multilatérale will once again perform the cine-concert, followed by a concert featuring several new works created using artificial intelligence, extending the ensemble’s ongoing exploration of new technologies and the transformations they bring to the processes of musical creation.
