Nicolas Crosse
Born in 1979, Nicolas Crosse studied at the Paris Conservatoire (CNSMDP) in Jean-Paul Celea's class. His work on contemporary music has enabled him to delve deeper into the twentieth-century repertoire and to create works for the double bass in collaboration with composers such as Luis Fernando Rizo-Salom, Lucas Fagin, Tolga Tüzün, Marco Antonio Suarez Cifuentes, Martin Matalon, Raphaël Cendo and Yann Robin.
Alongside his studies, he has performed as a substitute in various French orchestras: Orchestre de Paris, Opéra de Paris, Ensemble Intercontemporain under Pierre Boulez, Wolfgang Sawallisch, Valery Gergiev, Esa-Pekka Salonen, Christoph Eschenbach, Jonathan Nott and others.
In 2007, during his advanced studies, he recorded the DVD 'cross(E)road' in partnership with the Meyer Foundation and the Paris Conservatoire, including Luciano Berio's Sequenza XIVb, Jacob Druckman's Valentine, Franco Donatoni's Ala (duo with Alexis Descharmes on cello), Lucas Fagin's Cronica del oprimido and improvised music in a duo with Christian Laborie on clarinet.
In 2012, with the Multilatérale collective of which he is a member, Je vois le Feu premiered at the Archipel festival in Geneva, the fruit of a close collaboration with writer Yannick Haenel and saxophonist Vincent David.
That same year, he became a member of the Ensemble Modern in Germany, then succeeded Frédéric Stochl at the Ensemble Intercontemporain.
